The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that it will actively promote consultations with related agencies on the basic plan (draft) for the construction project of Gadeokdo New Airport, which is being pursued as a national agenda of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and plans to finalize and announce it by the end of this year.
This plan (draft) was prepared through a basic plan service in accordance with the roadmap announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March to open the airport in December 2029, and consultations on the strategic environmental impact assessment are underway.
Gadeokdo New Airport will be an international airport capable of 24-hour operation, aiming to open in December 2029. It plans to develop future utilization sites for runways, passenger and cargo terminals, airport access roads and railways, as well as logistics and commercial facilities. The total project cost will be finalized after consultations with related agencies in accordance with the National Finance Act.
To ensure the timely opening of Gadeokdo New Airport, a study on an organization dedicated to airport construction proposed the establishment of a construction corporation as the optimal alternative. Accordingly, the establishment of the ‘Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Corporation’ will be promoted through consultations with related ministries.
