Actively Responding to Recent Social Anxiety, Efforts to Prevent Harm
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will operate the "Gwangjin-gu Women's Self-Defense Academy" starting this September. This initiative aims to enhance the ability to respond to emergencies amid recent social concerns over violent crimes targeting women.
The program will run every Thursday evening from September 6 to October 5 and will be conducted in partnership with "Baekho Hapkido" located in Jayang-dong. Applications open on the 28th, with registration limited to the first 120 applicants. The academy will be held over four sessions, with 30 participants per session divided into two time slots. The first session runs from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and the second session from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The Self-Defense Academy will be led by professional instructors with extensive experience in self-defense training, focusing on simple and effective response techniques applicable in real-life situations. The program also includes various self-defense techniques, stretching, and strength training exercises to improve physical fitness.
Applicants must be women aged 10 to 50 residing in Gwangjin-gu and can apply through the Gwangjin-gu District Office website. For inquiries, please contact the Gwangjin-gu Sports Promotion Division.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, "We have prepared the Self-Defense Academy program to address the recent social issues related to violent crimes." He added, "We will continue to do our utmost to alleviate residents' anxiety and ensure they can live safely and securely in a safe environment."
