"Don't Be Alarmed by the Siren Sound" ... Changwon Special City Announces 'Air Raid Warning' at 2 PM on the 23rd
Civil Defense Drill for Air Raid Preparedness Linked with Eulji Exercise
Residents Cooperate by Moving to Nearby Civil Defense Shelters
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will conduct a civil defense evacuation drill in preparation for an air raid at 2 p.m. on the 23rd, in connection with the 2023 Eulji Exercise.
This nationwide drill, conducted simultaneously to strengthen the public's emergency response capabilities, will begin with an air raid alarm at 2 p.m. and last for 20 minutes. The sequence will be as follows: ‘Drill air raid alarm issued (2:00 p.m.) - Drill alert alarm issued (2:15 p.m.) - Drill alarm lifted (2:20 p.m.)’.
When the drill air raid siren sounds exactly at 2 p.m., citizens must evacuate to the nearest civil defense shelter. If there is no nearby shelter, they should evacuate to a safe underground space. Evacuated citizens can listen to the drill status and emergency public action guidelines broadcast live on KBS Radio 1 (Changwon 91.7 MHz) at the civil defense shelters.
Currently, Changwon City has designated 530 civil defense shelters, including apartment basements, underpasses, and underground shopping areas. The locations of nearby civil defense shelters can be checked by searching on the National Disaster Safety Portal, Naver, Kakao, T Map, and other platforms.
Simultaneously with the resident evacuation drill, vehicle movement control drills will be conducted on some major city roads under the supervision of the local police station. The vehicle movement control drills in Changwon will take place in five sections: ▲ Uichang-gu (Dogye Jungsa Intersection to Uichang-gu Office) ▲ Seongsan-gu (Education Complex Intersection to in front of Changwon Hospital) ▲ Masanhappo-gu (Masan Central Police Station to Masanhappo-gu Office) ▲ Masanhoewon-gu (Export Main Gate to Dongnam Gas Station) ▲ Jinhae-gu (Jinhae Police Station to Dolli Intersection). When the air raid siren sounds, drivers traveling in these sections must follow police instructions to pull over to the right side of the road and listen to the drill status via radio inside their vehicles.
