Gwangju Superintendent of Education Lee Jeong-seon: "Regret Issues in Auditor Recruitment Process, Apologize to Citizens"
Lee Jeong-seon, Superintendent of Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, expressed regret over the issues that arose during the recruitment process of the open auditor and stated that he will actively cooperate with the police investigation.
On the 21st, Superintendent Lee released a statement saying, "The results of the Board of Audit and Inspection's audit, which was conducted since last September regarding the appointment of the auditor, were recently announced," and added, "Regardless of the reasons, we take the issues that arose during the recruitment process very seriously."
He continued, "According to the audit results, the personnel officer was preemptively 'excluded from duties' before disciplinary action," and stated, "To ensure fairness in the disciplinary process, disciplinary committee members have been composed of external personnel such as lawyers and professors active in the 'Disciplinary Committee Talent Pool,' and the disciplinary procedures are being conducted promptly and transparently."
He also emphasized, "Separate from the Board of Audit and Inspection's disciplinary action, the personnel officer in question was reported to the police, and since the police investigation is currently underway, we will actively cooperate to ensure that no suspicion remains," and added, "Along with this, based on the audit results, we will supplement and review the personnel system, including recruitment and selection, to make it more transparent and fair."
Furthermore, he added, "We will actively gather diverse opinions on personnel regulations, including the 'Guidelines for Local Government Officials' Personnel Evaluation,' to establish a fair personnel system that everyone can acknowledge."
Meanwhile, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education faced controversy last year when it appointed Yoo Byung-gil, a former manager of the Gwangju Election Commission and a high school classmate of Superintendent Lee, as the open auditor.
