“Gwangam Beach Accident Mu” ... Changwon Special City Concludes 51-Day Long Journey
Despite Unusual Monsoon and Typhoons,
Doing Our Best to Attract Visitors to the Beach
Gwangam Beach, the only beach in Changwon City, Gyeongnam, closed without a single accident.
Changwon Special City announced that it opened Gwangam Beach on July 1 and closed it on the 20th after 51 days of operation. During the beach's open period, the northward approach of Typhoon Khanun (Typhoon No. 6) and an unusually long rainy season caused many difficulties in operating the beach and attracting visitors.
More than 66,000 vacationers visited Gwangam Beach, and various free experience programs and cultural events were held during the open period to provide enjoyment, making every effort to revitalize the local economy by attracting visitors.
Changwon City thoroughly ensured visitor safety by conducting and promoting water quality tests, radioactive material inspections, and sand soil tests from before the beach opening until its closure.
Additionally, to prevent water play accidents, professional lifeguards were employed, and cooperation with related organizations was established in advance to respond to safety incidents, including weekly survival swimming experience promotions.
