The briefing sessions are open free of charge not only to representatives and employees of small and medium enterprises with fewer than 50 employees but also to workplaces with 50 or more employees. Lee Myung-ro, Head of the Human Resources Policy Division at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, said, “With only five months left before the Serious Accidents Punishment Act applies to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, awareness of the importance of safety is increasing in small and medium enterprises, and many efforts are being made to prevent serious accidents. However, difficulties remain due to cost burdens and chronic labor shortages,” and added, “Since there are 680,000 poor workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, thorough preparation and support are necessary to prevent serious accidents, so a postponement of the law’s application for more than two years is urgently needed.”
