Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts Capacity Building Training for New Public Officials

Senior public officials in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) have stepped forward to support their junior colleagues.

Seo-gu announced on the 18th that on the 17th, it conducted capacity-building training for 50 newly appointed social welfare officials with less than three years of service at the Children's Ecological Learning Library.

This training was led by grade 6 team leaders who play a central role in Seo-gu's welfare administration, including Im Jikyun, Head of the Livelihood Security Team, Lee Seran, Head of the Child-Friendly Team, and Hong Songrim, Head of the Welfare Policy Team.

On the 17th, a capacity-building training session was conducted for 50 new public officials at the Children's Ecology Learning Library Multipurpose Hall, with senior social welfare public officials participating as instructors.

Based on over 20 years of field experience, they provided lectures to help juniors understand social security systems such as the National Basic Livelihood Security, welfare for the elderly, children, and disabled, and community-integrated care. They also detailed counseling techniques and empathetic communication methods for effective civil complaint responses, as well as understanding and applying welfare trends.

The lectures, centered on the vivid experiences and real cases of these 'masters of the welfare field,' received great acclaim from the participants.

In particular, Seo-gu conducted a survey prior to the training to identify the needs of the participants and provided customized education to increase satisfaction.

The new officials requested on-site training applicable to actual work, education to improve understanding and thinking skills regarding welfare in general, and training to enhance welfare mindset.

They also demanded improvements in the work environment, such as strengthening the reporting system for malicious complainants, fostering a free organizational culture, and having offices where they can plan and design projects without being overwhelmed by work.

District Mayor Kim Ikang also participated as a special lecturer in the training session.

Mayor Kim emphasized, “With the theme of happiness and welfare that gives assurance through communication, by focusing on trustworthy administration, resident-centered communication administration, and unwavering passion, having a clear goal that living in Seo-gu is happiness and actively carrying out administration will increase the welfare satisfaction of Seo-gu residents.”

Meanwhile, Seo-gu plans to continue capacity-building training on proposal and press release writing, sector-specific guideline education, public-private cooperation, and resource management.
