與 "Minju, '1 Special Prosecutor 4 Parliamentary Investigations' Not '5 Investigations 3 Trials' First"
Relentless Attack on Lee Jae-myung, the Representative, Following Prosecutor's Summon and Investigation
The People Power Party launched a fierce attack on June 18th against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was summoned for a prosecution investigation the previous day, saying it was "full of blatant political agitation."
Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "Lee once said during the detention warrant hearing of former President Park Geun-hye that 'even the president should be judged by the law just like any other citizen according to the necessity of judicial processing for the criminal acts,' and that the people's dream is to create a country where everyone is equal before the law and cause and effect is common sense." He added, "However, the behavior Lee showed from the time he appeared for investigation regarding the Baekhyeon-dong preferential treatment allegations until he returned home yesterday was far from his past remarks."
He continued, "Reading a statement in front of the prosecution office is a privilege that ordinary citizens cannot even dream of. Moreover, the statement contained no explanation of his charges but was full of blatant political agitation," and pointed out, "This cannot be considered an action that hopes the president to be judged by the law just like any other citizen."
Regarding Lee's remark calling the prosecution investigation "state violence," Yoon countered that the allegations arose during the previous administration. Yoon said, "Most of the charges Lee is currently facing emerged during the Democratic Party presidential primary under the Moon Jae-in government, which led to the investigation," adding, "Therefore, the 'state violence' and 'fabricated investigation' Lee refers to can only mean the state violence and fabricated investigation of the Moon Jae-in government."
Earlier, Lee said in front of the prosecution office the previous day, "(The Yoon Seok-yeol government) is trying to use me as a scapegoat to cover up the regime's incompetence and political failures. Isn't this state violence and a political prosecution's fabricated investigation that fabricates nonexistent crimes and covers up their own faults?"
Park Dae-chul, chairman of the Policy Committee, criticized the Democratic Party's demand for "1 special prosecutor and 4 parliamentary investigations," questioning whether it is a "shield" to cover Lee's judicial risks, and insisted that investigation and trial of Lee should take priority. He urged, "The Democratic Party suddenly announced the 1 special prosecutor and 4 parliamentary investigations the day before Lee's summons. If this was hastily made as a shield for Lee, I hope it will be stopped immediately."
Park added, "What is more urgent for the Democratic Party than the 1 special prosecutor and 4 parliamentary investigations is the investigation and trial related to Lee," emphasizing, "Resolving the suspicions related to Baekhyeon-dong development preferential treatment under investigation by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, the 42.8 billion won contract related to Daejang-dong development, the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance and lawyer fee payment suspicions under investigation by the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, the Jeongja-dong hotel preferential treatment under investigation by the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Seongnam branch, the Daejang-dong future new town development corruption trial ongoing at the Seoul Central District Court, Seongnam FC illegal donations, and violations of the Public Official Election Act, that is, the '5 investigations and 3 trials' must come first."

Meanwhile, Yoon said there is "no turmoil within the party" regarding remarks made by party Secretary-General Lee Cheol-gyu at a closed-door meeting of lawmakers on June 16th, where he said, "Since we are on the same boat, we should look in the same direction and work together, and I hope there will be no actions that cause discord or harm." He explained, "The Secretary-General's remark meant that while individual lawmakers can express their opinions externally, it would be good to consider the party's overall stance," and added, "There have been no particular issues or disagreements expressed by lawmakers within the party regarding that remark."
