"Legal Action vs. Person Who Deceived Moon... Controversial 'Habitat'"
Hataekyung's Allegation Raises, Parksuhyun Warns of Legal Action
The People Power Party's Special Committee for the Advancement of Civic Groups claims that the non-profit corporation 'UN-Habitat Korea Committee (hereinafter UN-Habitat Korea)' impersonated a UN-affiliated organization and collected donations amounting to over 4 billion KRW, sparking intense political controversy.
Amid former Blue House Communications Secretary Park Su-hyun, the inaugural chairman of UN-Habitat Korea, announcing plans for legal action, Representative Ha Tae-kyung, who leads the special committee, fired back calling it "self-contradiction."
On the 17th, Park posted on his social media, "After seeing yesterday’s so-called 'People Power Party Special Committee for the Advancement of Civic Groups' announcement and some media reports, the thought that came to mind was 'divine punishment,'" adding, "I am announcing strong legal action."
At the plenary meeting held at the National Assembly the previous day, the special committee claimed that UN-Habitat Korea, chaired initially by Park, "posed as a UN-Habitat headquarters-affiliated organization without any basic agreement and received 4.4 billion KRW in donations over the past four years," and that "when the organization was launched, former President Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory message saying 'the first single national committee of UN-Habitat was born in Korea,' but even President Moon was deceived."
Regarding the committee’s claims, Park said, "I have guessed and clearly know who and why such acts are being done. Also, it is election season," raising his voice, "No matter how urgent the election is, is it necessary to trample on the national interest of the Republic of Korea, the housing of ordinary people, and the dreams of youth just to catch one person, Park Su-hyun?"
He added, "How will they bear these many sins? Now, the things you have seen a lot will be performed in order," and "So-called conservative groups will accuse me, the prosecution will summon me, and put me on the photo line. Do they think they will win the election by doing that?" This is interpreted as an accusation that the ruling party is engaging in smear campaigns to damage Park’s reputation for electoral victory.
Representative Ha Tae-kyung, chairman of the special committee, immediately responded on social media. He said, "Shouldn’t the person who impersonated a UN-affiliated organization without any agreement, received huge donations, and especially deceived former President Moon, whom he served, receive divine punishment?"
He continued, "After the civic group special committee exposed these facts yesterday, UN-Habitat Korea strongly denied, saying they never pretended to be a UN-affiliated organization. However, since the launch of UN-Habitat Korea in 2019, Park has served as chairman and told numerous media and broadcasts that the Korea Committee is an official UN-affiliated organization," he claimed.
Ha also shared an article of an interview Park gave to a media outlet.
