BPA·HJNC Sign MOU for Creating a Waste-Free Busan Port
Busan Port Authority (BPA) signed a business agreement on the 16th with Hanjin Busan Container Terminal (HJNC), the operator of Pier 3 at Busan New Port, to realize a PET upcycling resource circulation system through the 'Waste-Free Busan Port Creation Project.'
Since 2021, BPA has been continuously practicing a resource circulation project that upcycles discarded PET bottles from its headquarters and passenger facilities such as Busan Port International Passenger Terminal to produce blankets, which are then donated to vulnerable groups in the local community.
With this agreement, the resource circulation system at Busan Port is expected to expand further by recycling not only waste PET generated at Busan Port passenger facilities but also PET generated at HJNC.

The label and foreign substance removal work for PET upcycling, conducted in collaboration with Dong-gu Senior Club, was previously limited to once a week in the afternoon, but starting this year, it will be carried out both in the morning and afternoon.
The upcycled PET will be used not only to make blankets but also safety vests, which will be distributed to port workers. After the joint project with HJNC, BPA plans to consider expanding the implementation to all terminal operators at Busan Port.
