Democrats Claim Without Official '4 Investigations 1 Special Prosecutor' Request... Not Grounds for Special Prosecutor
Discussion on Jamboree and Other Issues, Settlement Review at the People Power Party Lawmakers' Meeting on the 16th
Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said that the Democratic Party's claim of '4 national investigations and 1 special prosecutor' is "a claim without an official request." In particular, regarding the suspicion of concealment of a Marine who died during the search for flood victims, he drew a line by saying, "It is not a reason for a special prosecutor."
After the People Power Party's lawmakers' meeting held at the National Assembly on the 16th, Floor Leader Yoon met with reporters and responded to their questions in this way.
Earlier, Park Kwang-on, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said in the opening remarks of the policy lawmakers' meeting that "As Representative Lee Jae-myung mentioned in the Supreme Council opening remarks today, the party has decided to push for 4 national investigations and 1 special prosecutor." The '1 special prosecutor' refers to the suspicion of concealment of the Marine, and the '4 national investigations' concern ▲the suspicion of preferential treatment for President Yoon Seok-yeol's family in the Seoul-Yangpyeong highway ▲the dismissal of the KBS chairman and broadcasting control ▲Saemangeum Jamboree ▲the Osong underground passage disaster.
Floor Leader Yoon first rebutted the special prosecutor demanded by the Democratic Party, saying, "It cannot be a reason for a special prosecutor." He said, "I think it is not a reason from our party's standpoint. The disagreement about the scope of the investigation has been exposed externally, but I think the police should conduct the full investigation anyway."
He continued, "(The police) should transfer the case, and then the institution in charge of the investigation will naturally determine the scope of the investigation. If there is any violation of regulations or laws internally, separate internal measures can be taken. Therefore, I think it is not a matter for a special prosecutor, and I think it is a political offensive."
Regarding the demand for 4 national investigations, he also replied, "We will review it after an official request is made." He said, "The national investigations are unilaterally demanded from the Democratic Party's standpoint, and in some cases, they are claimed without an official request. If necessary, the Democratic Party will make an official request, and if there is a request, our party will review it."
Regarding the criticism that there was no official apology from Kim Hyun-sook, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, who was the head of the ministry responsible for the Jamboree, which had a 'poor management controversy,' Floor Leader Yoon said, "The Board of Audit and Inspection will soon start an audit," adding, "I think the audit should be conducted promptly, and once the audit is done, those responsible, regardless of rank or affiliation, cannot be free from accountability."

Meanwhile, regarding the backlash from some in the ruling party against the 'Jeonbuk responsibility theory' of the Jamboree, Floor Leader Yoon expressed the view that "I hope they align with the party's position." He said, "There may be personal political differences, but rather than making personal claims, I hope they respect the party's position and respond together with the party," adding, "Our party's position is also that regardless of affiliation, if wrongdoing is revealed through the audit, responsibility should be held."
