Gunsan Coast Guard Emphasizes Making 'Wearing Life Jackets' a Habit for Water Safety
The Gunsan Coast Guard Station (Chief Park Kyung-chae) has recently emphasized the "habitual wearing of life jackets" following a series of water accidents where life jackets were not worn.
The Coast Guard issued a "Warning" level alert under the summer peak season coastal accident risk forecast system until the 31st, stating, "Several fatal water accidents occurred over the past weekend involving people not wearing life jackets, so special caution is required."

On the 13th, two men in their 50s drowned off Chilpo Beach in Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province. It is known that they were not wearing life jackets.
The Coast Guard deployed rescue helicopters and patrol vessels for emergency rescue and transported them to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, they passed away.
On the same day, an 80-year-old man who was playing in the water without wearing a life jacket at Hanseom Beach in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, also died, marking a series of fatal water accidents.
The Coast Guard emphasized the habitual wearing of life jackets and urged caution.
They encourage wearing life jackets at beaches, government offices, and other multi-use facilities. Public service announcement videos are being broadcast, and patrols are being strengthened at non-designated beaches and other places crowded with water tourists to prevent accidents in advance.

A representative of the Gunsan Coast Guard said, "Compared to the East Coast, the West Coast has relatively fewer swell waves or rip currents, but there is still a risk of water accidents due to sudden weather deterioration or getting caught in tidal channels," adding, "We will continue to strengthen coastal safety management and carry out campaigns to promote the habitual wearing of life jackets."
