Following the Lee Jae-myung Terror Threat, "Explosion at Seoul City Hall on Gwangbokjeol"... Suspected Same Person
Police Request Cooperation from Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department
On the upcoming Liberation Day, the 15th, an email was sent domestically containing a message about installing explosives at Seoul City Hall. The police have launched an investigation, viewing the email sender as the same person who threatened a terror attack targeting Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 14th, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency confirmed that an email stating "High-performance bombs have been installed in several locations within Seoul City Hall. The detonation time is 3:34 PM on August 15" was sent the previous afternoon to domestic media outlets.
Considering the sender's address, content, and format of the threatening email, the police believe it was written by the same individual who sent the terror threat targeting Lee Jae-myung. Similar to previous terror threat emails sent from a law firm account based in Japan, including threats against the National Museum of Korea, the Japanese Embassy, Namsan Tower, and a Japanese school, this terror threat email was also sent from an email account of a real law firm in Japan. In fact, the name of Takahiro Karasawa (唐澤貴洋), a lawyer active in Japan, is specified in the email account.
The police have requested cooperation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to identify the suspect and secure custody, while also proceeding with criminal justice cooperation procedures. A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official stated at a press briefing that "Since receiving the report on the 8th, we have been requesting international cooperation," adding, "The International Cooperation Division at headquarters is handling the international cooperation process, but we have not yet received a concrete response."
