Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, held the inauguration ceremony for the 1st Mapo-gu Children and Youth Council of 2023 on the morning of the 12th at the audiovisual room on the 4th floor of Mapo-gu Office.
The Mapo-gu Children and Youth Council is the first system operated by the district to realize the right of participation by having children and youth directly make decisions, and furthermore to establish a system where the opinions of children and youth are reflected in Mapo-gu’s projects and policies.
The Children and Youth Council consists of 29 children council members and 12 youth council members, who received their appointment letters and membership certificates and will be active until December.
After the inauguration ceremony, an orientation on the roles and functions of local councils was held, followed by a regular meeting to elect the chairperson and form standing committees.
Mayor Park Gang-su said, “The Children and Youth Council is the first step to guarantee the right to participate as stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and an important opportunity to take the first step in exercising your rights. Mapo-gu will also actively review and support so that the policies proposed by the Children and Youth Council can be reflected in district administration, and we will do our best to be remembered as ‘Mapo that nurtured me well.’”
