[Harumanbo] Doloreumgil Where You Can Feel the Wonders of Nature
8km from Borim Farm Samgeori to Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest Entrance
The Doloreum Trail is Section 2 of the Hallasan Dullegil and starts at the Borim Farm intersection where the Cheona Forest Trail ends. It is good to walk the Cheona Forest Trail and then connect to this trail, but if it is too much to cover in one day, you can plan to walk only the Doloreum Trail separately. In this case, get off at the Yeongsil Entrance bus stop and walk 1.6 km via the 18 Imban Entrance to the Borim Farm intersection where the Doloreum Trail begins. Another way to experience the Doloreum Trail is to get off the bus at the Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest entrance and walk toward the Borim Farm intersection.
The 8 km Doloreum Trail from the Borim Farm intersection to the Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest entrance follows the Saekdalcheon Stream and is home to various tree species such as Quercus serrata, cedar, and maple. Especially, if you climb the Doloreum near the starting point of this trail and the Georin Saseum Oreum near the end, you can see Hallasan, Beopjeongio Oreum, Bolle Oreum, Noro Oreum, and Samhyeongje Oreum spread out like a folding screen. It is known as a place where you can see the landscape of the southwestern region of Jeju at a glance. Doloreum is said to have gotten its name from the piles of stones on and around its summit.
From Doloreum to the Pyogo Cultivation Intersection is 2.6 km. You will pass several shiitake mushroom farms centered around forest roads. The old kiln sites where charcoal was once burned are also preserved close to their original form. The charcoal kiln sites, which are easy to find while walking, hold the joys and sorrows of the lives of Jeju residents. After passing the Pyogo Cultivation Intersection and walking 3 km, you will see Yongbawi (Dragon Rock). It is named because the basalt rocks are arranged in a straight line along the ridge like dragon scales. It is a place where you can feel the traces of Hallasan's lava eruption.
The columnar joints well developed on the cliffs around the stream forming a waterfall are a breathtaking sight that makes you stop in your tracks. You can feel the mystery of nature as if flat plates were neatly cut and stacked horizontally. Saekdalcheon, where you can see the columnar joints, starts in Saekdal-dong, Seogwipo City, flows southward passing Doloreum and Nokhajiak, and joins Jungmuncheon. It is a local stream that is usually dry, but when it rains and water flows, you will listen to the small whisper-like sound of the water.
Along the Doloreum Trail, you can find groves of Zelkova trees throughout the section and artificial cedar forests here and there. At the end of the Doloreum Trail is Georin Saseum Oreum. It is said that deer once lived on this oreum. The word 'georida' is an old term meaning 'to split.' It means the oreum is split into two peaks.
