Suwon City to Investigate Human Rights Violations Including Violence in Sports Sector
The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is launching an investigation into human rights violations, including violence in the sports community.
On the 11th, Suwon City announced that it will investigate human rights violation cases such as violence, sexual harassment, and sexual violence experienced by athletes in the city's sports sector since October last year, with the investigation scheduled to be completed by October 13.
The survey targets 192 athletes affiliated with the Suwon City Sports Council, Suwon Disabled Sports Council, and Suwon FC players.
This year, Suwon City will conduct face-to-face interviews with all subjects, and if human rights violations are confirmed, relief for victims will be provided in accordance with the 'Basic Human Rights Ordinance.'
During the investigation, athletes will be informed about the procedures for seeking relief from human rights violations, and indirect education will be provided on the concept of human rights violations and information about the Human Rights Center.
Based on the results of the investigation, Suwon City will identify areas for improvement in organizational culture and systems and develop policy tasks.
A Suwon City official stated, "Since 2019, Suwon has conducted annual surveys on human rights violations targeting athletes in Suwon to understand the current status of human rights among Suwon's sportspeople. This year, by conducting face-to-face interviews with all subjects, we expect to obtain meaningful results."
