Lotte Hotel & Resort (Lotte Hotel) announced on the 11th that it successfully concluded a traditional culture exchange event with the UK Wales delegation, who left early from the '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree.'
As part of Lotte Group affiliates' support for the Jamboree, Lotte Hotel Seoul held a Korean culture exchange and experience event with the Wales delegation on the 10th from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Sapphire Ballroom on the 3rd floor of Lotte Hotel Seoul. The event was attended by 100 members of the Wales Jamboree delegation and about 90 Lotte Hotel employees who communicated one-on-one and participated in the experience.

Before experiencing Korean culture, the Wales cultural experience was led directly by the Welsh scouts. In particular, the Wales delegation surprised Lotte Hotel with a gift of the World Scout Jamboree neckerchief (scarf) as a token of gratitude. The Wales cultural experience included making love spoons, which symbolize opening one's heart in Wales, listening to and learning dances of Welsh regional music, and face painting.
Lotte Hotel Seoul organized a variety of programs such as ring toss, jegichagi (Korean shuttlecock kicking), and tuho (arrow throwing) to help easily understand and experience traditional Korean culture. Although the Welsh scouts seemed unfamiliar with the traditional Korean games they were trying for the first time, they quickly showed interest as they learned with the kind explanations and help of the staff. In particular, there was an unending line of participants eager to try ttakji-chigi (folded paper tile game), which appeared in the Netflix original series 'Squid Game.'
At the entrance of the event venue, a traditional costume experience area was also set up where participants could take photos wearing hanbok. The scouts wore colorful hanbok and took four-cut photo strips at a specially made photo box by Lotte Hotel. The final program included tasting traditional Korean sweets and drinks such as dalgona (honeycomb toffee), injeolmi (rice cake coated with powdered beans), songpyeon (half-moon shaped rice cake), and other traditional refreshments.
A Lotte Hotel & Resort official said, "Despite the limited preparation time for the event, the voluntary participation and warm hospitality of the employees allowed us to spend meaningful time with the Jamboree scouts," adding, "We hope it helped the Welsh scouts experience and understand Korean culture."
