Pohang City Cancels the 16th National Marine Sports Festival Due to Typhoon!
Cancellation of Korea's Largest Marine Sports Event for Participant Safety
The 16th National Marine Sports Festival, the largest marine sports event in South Korea, was canceled due to the impact of Typhoon Khanun, the 6th typhoon of the season.
On the 10th, Pohang City explained that after reviewing and discussing the postponement of the event with officials from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Gyeongbuk Province, the final decision was made to cancel the competition. On the same day, Pohang City experienced strong winds and heavy rain as it entered the direct influence zone of Typhoon Khanun.
The event was expected to have about 30,000 participants, including athletes, in the Pohang area, but was canceled due to the northward advance of the typhoon to ensure the safety of athletes and citizens, leaving a sense of regret.

A Pohang City official said, “We had no choice but to cancel this event, prioritizing the safety of citizens and participants,” and added, “We will do our best to host the Marine Sports Festival again in Pohang City in 2025.”
