Brain-Dead 20s Singer Donates Life to 4, Moves to Heavenly Stage
24-year-old Kim Nokto Declared Brain Dead After Fall
Released 'Jureureuk' Song Last August
A young man in his 20s who loved singing and released an album gifted new life to four people through brain-dead organ donation before passing away.
24-year-old Kim Nokto was transported to the hospital after a fall accident on the 5th of last month while on his way to work related to music after finishing his job.
According to the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency (KODA) on the 7th, Kim, who did not regain consciousness and became brain dead, donated his heart, liver, and both kidneys at Korea University Anam Hospital through brain-dead organ donation, saving four lives.
Born as the eldest son among one son and one daughter in Cheongju, Chungbuk, Kim enjoyed music and drawing. He engaged in various activities such as composing and street performances to become a musician.
Last August, he also released several songs including "Jureureuk." Kim frequently donated blood and could not pass by people in difficult situations without stepping forward to help.
His family remembered him as "a calm and introverted but kind and warm person who knew how to care for others."
Kim’s father, Kim Dongyeop, stated, "Remembering Kim’s willingness to help others during his lifetime, we decided to donate his organs to save someone else’s life."
He added, "Son, you just went on a picnic to heaven, right? I hope you enjoy peace and joy in heaven, making music, cooking, and sharing happiness with many others there. We love you and will forever keep you in our hearts along with your beautiful music," bidding farewell.
The Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency expressed gratitude, saying, "We thank the donor’s family who decided on organ donation to save others’ lives while sending off a young donor who passed away at the age of 24 and leaving behind young children."
The deceased was laid to rest at Cheongju Magnolia Park after a three-day funeral. A video interview with the father remembering the donor can be viewed on the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency’s YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, according to the National Organ, Tissue and Blood Management Service under the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 3rd, the number of organ donation pledges reached 2,765,864 as of June this year. From January to June this year alone, 73,449 new pledges were made.
Considering that the number of patients waiting for organ transplants was about 49,724 as of June, the current number of organ donation pledges is not insignificant.
