Yeonggwang-gun Successfully Hosts the 'National Men's and Women's Basketball Championships'
Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 7th that the 78th National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships were successfully concluded over 11 days from July 25 to August 4 at four indoor gymnasiums in the area, including the Sportium National Sports Center and the auxiliary gymnasium.
Since 2013, the county has hosted seven out of ten National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships held to date.

During the tournament, which involved about 2,400 players and officials from 132 teams nationwide, the county estimated that local merchants, including lodging facilities, restaurants, specialty product stores, and gas stations, earned approximately 2.6 billion KRW.
Recently, the continuous hosting of nationwide competitions has acted as a boon to the local economy.
The competition results crowned the 2023 national basketball champions in various categories: ▲ Women’s General Division - Sacheon City Hall ▲ University Division - Dankook University ▲ Men’s High School Division - Yongsan High School ▲ Women’s High School Division - Onyang Girls’ High School ▲ Men’s Middle School Division - Samseon Middle School ▲ Women’s Middle School Division - Onyang Girls’ Middle School ▲ Men’s Elementary Division - Daegu Chilgok Elementary School ▲ Women’s Elementary Division - Seongnam Sujeong Elementary School ▲ Boys’ Club Division - Geoje City Public Sports Club ▲ Men’s 3×3 - Dangjin City Basketball Association.
Kim Jeong-seop, Deputy Governor of Yeonggwang-gun, stated, “The county has accumulated much more experience and tacit knowledge than other cities and counties by hosting numerous nationwide competitions so far. Based on this experience, we will continue to attract more tournaments and maintain the county’s reputation as an advanced sports city.”
Meanwhile, the Yeonggwang Sportium football exclusive stadium and auxiliary stadium are hosting the 2023 National Summer Elementary Football League from August 2 to 10, a nine-day event.
The county is making every effort to ensure that young football hopefuls visiting Yeonggwang-gun can focus solely on training in their best condition during the league.
