First Half-Year Ddaengddaeng Village Experience Class, 17,347 Ulsan Students Participate
Class Satisfaction 93%, Village Teacher Satisfaction 97%
In the first half of this year, a total of 17,347 students from 65 elementary and middle schools participated in the school-linked curriculum programs at the Ulsan Village Education Community Hub Center.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education operated one-day experience classes and project classes as part of the school-linked curriculum from March 14 to July 21.
In the one-day experience classes, 11 courses were offered, with 6,992 students from 59 schools participating. In the project classes, 10 courses were offered, with 5,503 students from 6 schools participating.
The Ulsan Office of Education established and operates the Ulsan Village Education Community Hub Center in 2020 by utilizing the closed (former) Gunggeunjeong Elementary School in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, to provide a space where local students, parents, and citizens can engage in various experiential activities.
The center serves as an intermediary hub connecting schools and villages, enhancing local educational capacity and contributing to the expansion of educational opportunities in public education. It is also called ‘Ddaengddaeng Village.’

It also runs various programs such as a village citizen learning center for local residents ranging from youth to the elderly, a youth autonomy learning center to cultivate youth self-governance capabilities, and a garden classroom that revitalizes barren playgrounds through plant cultivation.
A satisfaction survey conducted by the city education office among students participating in the school-linked curriculum showed a 97% satisfaction rate with the village teachers guiding the experiential activities and a 93% satisfaction rate with the materials and classes. Additionally, 86% of students responded that they would like to participate again.
After a reorganization period, the Ulsan Office of Education will operate summer vacation experience classes from August 8 to 18 for 812 pre-registered participants.
From August 22, 10,885 students from 54 elementary and middle schools are expected to participate in the second half of the school curriculum-linked programs, with 6,461 students from 49 schools attending the experience classes and 4,424 students from 5 schools participating in the project classes.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to expand the student experiential complex space through consultation among educational communities, considering the high demand from schools?evidenced by the one-day experience class pre-registration filling up on the day of application?and the shortage of student experiential spaces.
