Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun Visits Townsville, Australia... Proposes "Sustainable Urban Planning Policy"

On the 4th (local time), Mayor Lee Jae-jun held a meeting with Mayor Jenny Hill at Townsville City Hall and said, "I hope to share policies and cases related to sustainable urban planning, which is a common interest of Suwon City and Townsville City," adding, "Also, when there is a veterans' event in Townsville, Suwon City would like to send a congratulatory video and provide commemorative gifts with gratitude."
Mayor Jenny Hill responded, "Exchange and cooperation on sustainable urban planning policies is a good proposal," and added, "Townsville is located near the Great Barrier Reef1), so we are very interested in sustainable development where humans and the environment coexist."
Townsville is promoting sustainable development policies aiming to achieve 'Net Zero2)' by 2050. The city is implementing sustainable development policies across all urban administration, such as 'Water Smart City,' which minimizes water usage throughout the city, 'Solar City,' which utilizes solar energy, and 'Zero Waste,' which reduces waste output.
Mayor Jenny Hill also said, "Australia holds the 'Gapyeong Day' event every April 24th to commemorate the Battle of Gapyeong, a monumental battle involving Australian troops in the Korean War," and added, "I will introduce you to the commander of the Australian forces who can assist with veterans' honor projects." Furthermore, she responded, "Marathon exchanges are definitely possible, and we will also consider exchanges of public officials."
Earlier, on the 3rd, Mayor Lee Jae-jun visited the Korean War Memorial located at Cascade Gardens, Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Queensland, and laid a wreath. The Queensland Korean War Memorial, established in 2011, honors the bravery, noble sacrifice, and dedication of Australian troops who participated in the Korean War.
On the morning of the 6th, Mayor Lee Jae-jun participated in a 5 km short marathon with Mayor Jenny Hill at the 51st Townsville Running Festival held in the Townsville area. That afternoon, he attended the opening ceremony of the "70th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Korea-Australia Alliance Historical Photo Exhibition" held at the Townsville Military War Museum and delivered a congratulatory speech.
On the 7th, Mayor Lee Jae-jun inspected the Townsville area, where the "Landscape Restoration Project" is being promoted, together with the Director of Sustainable Development of Townsville City, and will return to Korea on the 8th.

Meanwhile, Suwon City has been steadily exchanging with Townsville City since signing an international sister city agreement in April 1997. The Townsville delegation, including Mayor Jenny Hill, visited Suwon last October to attend the 59th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival.
