Lotte Construction Implements Special Heatwave Management... Efforts to Cool Down Workers Underway
Lotte Construction conducted a safety and health inspection on the 3rd at a residential-commercial complex site in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, to prepare for the summer heatwave.
The inspection to prepare for the heatwave was held with the attendance of Lotte Construction Vice Chairman Park Hyun-cheol, Kim Jin, Head of Safety and Health Management Office (CSO), and other related personnel.
Lotte Construction has designated the period from June to September as a special heatwave management period and distributes heat illness prevention guides to each site to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s three key points (water, shade, rest) and checks the implementation status.
Additionally, rest facilities are installed on-site to guarantee appropriate breaks during the hottest hours. In particular, when a heatwave warning is issued, workers are notified via text messages and speakers to avoid outdoor work and take proper rest, adjusting working hours to guarantee the right to suspend work. Furthermore, workers are provided with cooling containers, and water supply facilities and ice makers are installed to allow them to drink cool water even at the workplace.
During the inspection, time was also taken to provide related preventive education and supplies to create a safe construction site from the ongoing heatwave and to help prevent heat illnesses among exhausted workers. Along with cool beverages, items such as cool sleeves, cool neck scarves, and helmet liners were distributed to help workers cool down.
Vice Chairman Park Hyun-cheol of Lotte Construction stated, “It is important to create an environment where workers’ rest is guaranteed so they can work healthily,” and urged thorough safety and health management in preparation for the heatwave by saying, “Please pay attention to ensuring rest areas, providing cooling devices, and maintaining rest times.”
