No Boneless Meat... Gyeongnam Province Conducts Detailed Safety Inspection of Muryangpan Apartment Complex
Gyeongsangnam-do plans to conduct a detailed safety inspection of apartment complexes in the province that use flat slab structures.
According to Gyeongnam Province on the 3rd, there are 13 apartment complexes in the province that have applied flat slab structures and were either completed or under construction since 2017.
The province is currently conducting safety inspections on seven sites under construction and stated that detailed safety diagnoses are needed for the remaining six sites that have completed construction.
To this end, discussions are underway with central government agencies regarding the companies to carry out the detailed safety diagnoses and the service fees, and the inspections will be implemented as soon as the discussions are concluded.
An investigation is also underway on apartment complexes that applied flat slab structures from 2013 to 2017.
Earlier, amid revelations of missing rebar installation in apartments by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), it was confirmed that there are so-called ‘Sunsal Apartments’ missing reinforcement rebar in Gyeongnam as well.
On the 30th of last month, at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s emergency safety inspection meeting for public housing, results were reported from a full survey of 91 rental and sale complexes ordered by LH that applied flat slab structures in underground parking lots.
According to the results, 15 sites were found to have been constructed with missing reinforcement rebar, including the Yangsan Sasong A2 and A8 complexes in Gyeongnam, scheduled for completion in 2026.
At Yangsan Sasong A2 complex, 7 out of 650 rebars were simply omitted, and at A8 complex, due to a calculation error in the reinforcement rebar application area, 72 out of 241 rebars were missing.
The missing reinforcement rebars are scheduled to be reinforced by supplementing the upper part of the reinforced concrete on the 10th and 20th of this month.

An industry official said, “The flat slab structure supports the ceiling solely with columns without beams connecting the columns, so the columns bear the entire ceiling load,” adding, “Sufficient reinforcement rebar must be inserted to ensure the columns can withstand the load.”
