"An Experience Site of Overcoming Hardship, Not Just Summer Escape"

"(The Jamboree) is a situation that can be sufficiently managed. The problem lies with the youth of the Republic of Korea. They have been raised as precious treasures at home and lack camping experience."

At the ‘World Scout Jamboree’ event held in Saemangeum, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, where participants are increasingly complaining of heat-related illnesses, a member of the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Council stated, "The Jamboree is not a summer retreat," and claimed it is "an experience of overcoming hardship by voluntarily enduring difficulties."
On the 3rd, Yeom Young-seon, a Jeollabuk-do council member from the Democratic Party of Korea, commented "Jamboree Evening" on a post by Jeollabuk-do Governor Kim Kwan-young on social media (SNS). Yeom said, "This is a review of attending the Jamboree opening ceremony the day before," and began, "I just briefly stepped in due to the complicated entry procedures caused by VIP attendance and then left." Yeom, the spokesperson for the Jeollabuk-do Council, belongs to the Administrative and Autonomy Committee of the council, which oversees the Jamboree event.
Yeom wrote, "While many other council members and media are worried about the heatwave, in my view, it is a situation that can be endured," adding, "In the evening, it was slightly humid but there was also wind. Every modern restroom was equipped with air conditioning." He further stated, "Above all, the Jamboree is not a summer vacation. Participants pay 1.5 million KRW each and endure hardships by taking expensive flights from distant foreign countries as an experience of overcoming adversity," and added, "Most overseas youths had sunburned faces but were bright and cheerful."
Yeom continued, "The problem is the youth of the Republic of Korea," and argued, "Since the participation fee is even free for them, they do not properly understand the purpose and value of the Jamboree and have many complaints and dissatisfaction. This is the reality of education in the Republic of Korea. It is the dark future of Korea."
Yeom’s post was deleted about five hours after it was published.
