LGU+ Publishes 'Sustainable Management Report'... Strengthening ESG Information
LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it has published the ‘2022 Sustainability Management Report,’ which enhances ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) information. The report discloses the achievements, directions, and non-financial information of ESG management activities.
This report reflects the latest revision of the international standard for sustainability management reports, the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) 2021, and newly introduced the industry-specific ‘sector standards.’ Previously, reports were prepared based on 3 universal standards and 33 topic-specific standards, but this year’s report added 3 universal standards, 31 topic-specific standards, and 40 newly organized sector standards as indicators, including more ESG information than before.
LG Uplus also introduced a ‘double materiality assessment process’ to select five key issues most closely related to its management activities, disclose each goal and detailed plan, and classify the strategies and performance results as ‘priority issues.’ Double materiality assessment is an evaluation method that comprehensively considers the impact of social and environmental factors on a company’s financial status and the impact of the company’s management activities on society and the environment to select the most important ESG issues for the company.
Through the double materiality assessment, LG Uplus selected five core issues related to its management activities: ▲ improving customer satisfaction ▲ reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions ▲ pursuing work-life balance ▲ expanding the use of renewable energy ▲ strengthening information security and personal data protection management.
In addition, LG Uplus introduced its environmental management based on internal and external communication, resource circulation activities such as water management and waste management, and eco-friendly telecommunication technology services in the environmental sector. In the social sector, the report includes contents on ▲ human rights management ▲ securing diversity ▲ safety and health ▲ social contribution ▲ win-win growth. In the governance sector, it covers LG Uplus’s overall management situation, including ethical management, compliance management, and risk management.
Regarding the report’s composition, LG Uplus departed from the traditional format of sustainability management reports and adopted a bullet-point style to reduce unnecessary descriptions and enhance visibility. The report’s design incorporates LG Uplus’s representative characters, Muneo, Holman, and Aji, adding visual elements to the report to shed the heavy and rigid image while simultaneously promoting the characters.
