Gyeonggi Office of Education Drastically Improves Evaluation Criteria for Private Educational Institutions
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is improving the evaluation indicators and cycles for private educational institutions.
On the 2nd, the Office announced that it has established an 'Improvement Plan for the Evaluation of Private Educational Institutions' to be implemented at frontline private schools.
The evaluation of private educational institutions has been conducted annually across four evaluation areas?corporate sector, personnel sector, finance and facilities sector?with 30 evaluation indicators, aiming to enhance the public nature and transparency of private institutions.
However, there have been calls for improvement due to the excessive number of evaluation indicators and frequent evaluation cycles compared to public schools.
Accordingly, the Office of Education prepared an improvement plan through councils and meetings involving private schools directly, securing balance with the public school evaluation, which has a 3-year cycle and 14 evaluation indicators, while expanding the autonomy of private educational institutions.
The main points of the improvement plan include ▲adjusting the evaluation cycle from annually to every 3 years (to be implemented in 2025) ▲reducing the number of evaluation indicators from 30 to 15 ▲simplifying the submission of evaluation materials (supporting documents), among others.
