Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-gwon) announced that it will operate a ‘Multicultural Youth Career Camp’ on August 4 and 11 to support career planning for multicultural youth and others.

Yeongdeungpo-gu has the highest proportion of foreign residents in Seoul. In particular, the percentage of multicultural students in Yeongdeungpo-gu is 6.37% (1,607 out of 25,623 total students), which is about 2.7 times higher than the overall multicultural student ratio of 2.41% in Seoul. Recently, while the total number of students has decreased, the number of multicultural students continues to rise.

The district has prepared the Multicultural Youth Career Camp to help multicultural youth grow into talented members of society. Based on understanding and experiencing various occupational groups, the camp broadens opportunities for career exploration and increases interest in college admission through university tours and mentoring.

The Multicultural Youth Career Camp will be held twice: ▲ August 4 with ‘Communicating with Theater Actors,’ a cultural and artistic career convergence education program, and ▲ August 11 with ‘University Tour Mentoring’ alongside Seoul National University student mentors.

‘Communicating with Theater Actors’ involves students visiting a Daehangno theater to watch the original play ‘Criminal Season 5,’ followed by a lecture and Q&A session with the actors. The actors deliver vivid talks about their profession and life as actors, how to become an actor, and other topics students are curious about. Students communicate directly with the actors to deepen their understanding of the profession and receive practical advice.

‘University Tour Mentoring’ includes ▲ a tour of Seoul National University ▲ experiencing the student cafeteria ▲ mentoring by prestigious university students. Students explore places such as the Kyujanggak Institute, Law School, College of Law, museum, and art gallery within Seoul National University, then have lunch at the student cafeteria to experience campus life. Afterwards, they meet with Seoul National University student mentors for mentoring sessions covering important subject study methods, department-specific admissions, interviews, and motivation.

The Multicultural Youth Career Camp is open to multicultural family youth and native students residing in the area, from 6th grade elementary to high school students. ‘Communicating with Theater Actors’ will recruit 80 participants (56 multicultural youth, 24 native students), and ‘University Tour Mentoring’ will recruit 60 participants (42 multicultural youth, 18 native students) on a first-come, first-served basis. Multicultural youth can apply by phone or visit Yeongdeungpo-gu Dadream Cultural Complex Center, Yeongdeungpo Family Center, or Seoul Global Youth Education Center. Native students can apply through the integrated reservation system on the district office website. For more details, visit the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website or contact the Child and Youth Division.

Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope multicultural youth adapt well as members of our society and grow into future talents by leveraging their strengths. We will continue to discover and operate various programs to actively support youth in fully realizing their dreams.”
