Incheon City Supports Additional Delivery Fees for Non-Connected Island Residents' Parcels Throughout September
Ahead of Chuseok, the burden of delivery fees for island residents in the Incheon area is expected to decrease. On the 31st, Incheon City announced that it will implement the 'Additional Delivery Fee Support Project for Island Area Living Logistics (Delivery)' for the first time in September, in accordance with government policy.
Non-connected islands, which are not linked to the mainland, include ferry fares in their delivery costs, making them on average five times more expensive than urban areas. This initiative aims to alleviate the economic burden on island residents. Since delivery volumes increase in September due to Chuseok, the city plans to support additional delivery fees for residents of 27 non-connected islands in Ganghwa and Ongjin during the month.
The support targets residents aged 19 and older living on non-connected islands. In Ganghwa County, this includes 734 residents of Mibeop, Seogeom, Jumun, Acha, Boleum, and Maldo, while in Ongjin County, it covers 12,974 residents of 21 inhabited islands excluding Yeongheung, Seonjae, and Cheukdo, which are connected to the mainland.
The support amount for deliveries from urban areas to islands is 5,000 KRW per package for Ganghwa County and 10,000 KRW per package for Ongjin County, regardless of actual costs. For deliveries sent from islands to urban areas, residents can receive reimbursement for the actual additional delivery fees paid by submitting the tracking number and payment proof. Residents wishing to apply can visit their local community center from September 1 until the day before the Chuseok holiday, September 27.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Until now, there has been no reasonable cost calculation standard for loading delivery vehicles onto ships, resulting in excessive logistics costs charged to island residents, and the need to reduce delivery fee burdens has been consistently raised." They added, "To ensure that island residents with poor accessibility can enjoy logistics services equal to those in urban areas, we plan to further expand related projects starting next year."
