Boseong-gun Proposes Expansion of Crop Disaster Insurance Coverage Area
County Governor Kim Cheol-woo Meets Deputy Minister Han Hoon of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to Make Proposals
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that County Governor Kim Cheol-woo visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to secure government budget support for national subsidies and pending projects.
On this day, Governor Kim Cheol-woo met with Deputy Minister Han Hoon of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to explain key project plans and requested the inclusion of government budget proposals aimed at increasing income in the agricultural sector and revitalizing the tea industry.
In particular, Governor Kim Cheol-woo emphasized that since the cultivation area of Danhobak (pumpkin) in Boseong-gun accounts for 46% of Jeollanam-do’s total, he requested the expansion of the project area to include Danhobak in the agricultural product disaster insurance coverage.
Furthermore, as of July 2023, Boseong-gun produced 1,866 tons of Danhobak from 155 hectares and 233 farms, but due to continuous heavy rains causing late blight and Danhobak rot, nearly 50% of the total cultivation area suffered flood damage, which he cited to explain the necessity of the request.
Governor Kim Cheol-woo stated, “With agricultural disasters caused by abnormal weather becoming more frequent and the scale of damage expected to become localized and large-scale, I visited central government ministries directly to request financial support and convey the opinions of the residents.” He added, “I will continue to visit central ministries to do my best to secure national funding.”
Meanwhile, the agricultural crop disaster insurance support project compensates for crop damage caused by natural disasters and supports farmers’ income and management stability by subsidizing farmers’ insurance premiums. It covers 90% of the premium (50% national subsidy, 12% provincial subsidy, 28% county subsidy).
