Changwon Special City Holds Fisheries Product Consumption Promotion Event Hosted by Suhyup
Mayor Hong Nampyo: "We will do our best by preparing various measures to revitalize seafood consumption"
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 28th that a seafood consumption promotion event was held at City Hall, hosted by local fisheries cooperatives.
The event was jointly organized by Masan Fisheries Cooperative, Changwon West Fisheries Cooperative, Jinhae Fisheries Cooperative, and Anchovy Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative to increase seafood consumption, which has declined due to safety concerns related to the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. About 800 people, including Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, heads of local fisheries cooperatives, leaders of fishermen's organizations, and city hall employees, participated in the event.

View original imageAs part of the event, lunch was provided at the city hall cafeteria using ingredients such as ark shell, boiled mussels, and dried anchovies prepared by Masan Fisheries Cooperative, Jinhae Fisheries Cooperative, and Anchovy Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative. At the cafeteria entrance, free dried anchovies from the Anchovy Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative were also distributed, receiving a positive response from city hall employees.
Additionally, on the first floor of the city hall main building, Mayor Hong, heads of fisheries cooperatives, and leaders of fishermen's organizations jointly promoted the safety of local seafood and encouraged its consumption through the 'Our Seafood Consumption Promotion' campaign.
Going forward, Changwon City plans to continue promoting the safety and consumption of local seafood by collaborating with local fisheries cooperatives to hold events such as the Jinhae Bay Fresh Seafood Festival, Masan Mussel Festival, and seafood sales and tasting events.

We will continue to widely promote the safety of our seafood and prepare various measures to revitalize seafood consumption, doing our best to help alleviate the difficulties faced by those engaged in the fisheries industry.”
