Homeplus, Vacation Season... Canned Alcohol Sales Surge 144%
The Growth Rate of Canned Beer Sales is 21%p Higher Compared to Bottled Beer
As the peak summer vacation season begins, more customers are purchasing canned alcoholic beverages for their holidays.
According to Homeplus on the 28th, sales of canned RTD (Ready to Drink) alcoholic beverages increased by about 144% from the 24th of last month to the 23rd of this month compared to the previous month. During this period, the sales growth rate of canned beer was about 21 percentage points higher than that of bottled beer.

Canned alcoholic beverages made of aluminum have high thermal conductivity, so they cool down quickly when placed in a refrigerator, making them popular at vacation spots. The convenience of drinking and portability are also factors contributing to the popularity of canned alcoholic beverages during this season.
In particular, RTD products are a step further in convenience compared to regular canned alcoholic beverages. They are "ready-made alcoholic beverages" that can be consumed immediately without separate preparation, and their popularity has been steadily increasing recently. Homeplus currently sells about 10 exclusive RTD canned alcoholic beverage products. Since starting sales of canned RTD highballs in July last year, they have expanded the lineup this year to include RTD canned low-sugar highballs, sours, and cocktails.
As of the 23rd, the cumulative sales volume of about 10 exclusive RTD alcoholic beverage products at Homeplus has surpassed 570,000 cans. The ongoing 'Mixology' trend led by highballs, combined with the first vacation season after the endemic (periodic outbreak of infectious diseases), has further increased recent sales.
The 'Lemon, Apple, Earl Grey Highball Low Sugar,' 'Cheonggyul (Green Tangerine), Lemon, Yuzu Sour,' and 'Honey Highball,' released on the 28th of last month, sold out their initial stock within two weeks, leading to a reorder of all seven varieties.
Kang Jae-jun, head of the alcoholic beverage team at Homeplus, said, "As the weather gets hotter and the summer vacation season is in full swing, customers look for canned alcoholic beverages that are convenient and refreshing. With the unique alcoholic beverage market opening up, especially among people in their 20s and 30s who enjoy various tastes and aromas, the popularity of RTD canned highballs, sours, and others is expected to continue."
