Suwon City Wins 'Grand Prize' at Manifesto Best Practice Competition
Suwon City received the Grand Prize in the Inequality Reduction category at the National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition held on the 27th.
View original imageOn the 27th, Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province received the Grand Prize in the "Inequality Mitigation" category at the 2023 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition.
Suwon City applied in the inequality mitigation category with its policy "A City for All, One Suwon," which promotes the participation of resident immigrants in city administration.
In this competition, Suwon City received high marks for ▲actively reflecting the central government's national agenda of "Creating a society where no family is left behind and everyone participates together" by establishing a multicultural inclusion policy framework ▲building and expanding physical infrastructure and enhancing mature social multicultural awareness ▲improving multicultural awareness, spreading a culture of coexistence to eliminate discrimination, and promoting social integration.
Currently, Suwon City has established and is implementing policies for resident immigrants' participation in city administration, including operating three customized foreigner and multicultural centers, facilitating resident immigrant participation in city administration (immigrant participation discussions and committee operations), managing communication channels for resident immigrants, promoting projects to enhance multicultural acceptance, and organizing community integration events.
A Suwon City official emphasized, "We will not simply focus on immigrants' social adaptation and settlement, but recognize immigrants who have lived in diverse societies as members and communicate with them," adding, "We will actively and proactively promote multicultural policies to create One Suwon."
Since 2011, Suwon City has achieved a total of 10 awards at the "National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition" up to this year.

Meanwhile, as of November 1, 2021, the number of foreign residents living in Suwon City was 65,885, accounting for 5.5% of the total population, ranking second among cities and counties nationwide after Ansan City.
