Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju "Save the Environment" Supports Reusable Containers at Funeral Homes
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will officially start a reusable container support project next month to reduce disposable products and realize a Gwangsan-type circular economy.
This project was promoted to spread the culture of using reusable containers in fields and sites with high disposable product usage and to enhance the effect of practicing resource circulation.
The project will be carried out in three areas: funeral homes, coffee shops, and festivals/events.
First, reusable containers such as dishes and cups, as well as washing facilities, will be supported for funeral homes, which use one-quarter of the disposable plates in Korea.
Through a public recruitment from the 27th of last month to the 11th of this month, Gwangju Suwan Funeral Home was selected as the supported business. With district support, reusable containers and dishwashers will be installed in August.
Starting next month, a project to lend reusable containers free of charge at festivals and event sites will also be implemented through an agreement with the Citizens' Life Environment Council and the social enterprise Working Mom.
This method lends necessary reusable containers to festivals and events hosted by Gwangsan-gu and public institutions, as well as those held by individuals and private organizations, and after return, the containers are washed and reused.
The Citizens' Life Environment Council handles reception and lending, while Working Mom is responsible for washing.
Various reusable containers such as rice bowls, soup bowls, spoons, plates, and cups are equipped, which is expected to greatly help minimize the use of disposable products.
