Major domestic conglomerates in key industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, steel, machinery, electronics, and energy have agreed to join forces in developing industrial artificial intelligence (AI).

On the 25th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will hold the launch ceremony of the 'Industrial AI Alliance' at the Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul, with First Vice Minister Jang Young-jin and leading industry representatives including Hyundai Motor Company, LG Electronics, Hyundai Steel, LG Energy Solution, as well as digital transformation (DX) providers such as Samsung SDS and SK C&C participating.

This alliance is an expansion and reorganization of the 'Industrial Digital Transformation Coalition,' which was formed in 2020 and has involved over 400 companies and institutions to date. The Industrial AI Alliance will be operated through three technical divisions?Mobility, Machinery, and Optimization?and two policy divisions focusing on industrial data and laws/regulations, to enable rapid cross-industry integration of AI technology.

By the end of the year, the technical divisions plan to identify 40 industrial AI solution commercialization projects based on collaboration between demand and supply companies, while the policy divisions aim to discover more than 15 tasks to promote industrial data utilization and over 10 items for legal and regulatory improvements.

Discussions have already begun on more than 10 projects, including ▲ linkage and management of automotive lifecycle (design to used car sales) data ▲ integration among smart ships, equipment, shipping, and ports ▲ transfer of DX solutions and experience from large electric power product companies to partner firms ▲ AI-based process control to minimize waste in cement manufacturing processes.

First Vice Minister Jang Young-jin of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "To overcome the structural limitations our industry currently faces and respond to global uncertainties, fundamental innovation in our industries is necessary. Through the Industrial AI Alliance, we will actively support the enhancement of competitiveness across the entire value chain of each industry, beyond individual companies."
