According to Gyeongnam MBC on the 20th, on the afternoon of the 16th, rainwater rose to adult knee height on a six-lane road between the 5th and 6th Buyeong Apartments in Dudong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon City. This area is a habitual flood zone where roads are submerged every rainy season.
As rainwater flooded the road and adults anxiously stamped their feet, a group of students approached the drainage grate. They were first-year students from Jinhae Sinhang Middle School who began diligently clearing the clogged drain with umbrellas in the rainwater.
They said, "Let's clear it with our feet, with our feet," and despite wearing slippers, they removed various trash, leaves, and foreign substances buried in the drain. For two hours, four female students personally cleaned trash from six drainage grates. As a result, water began to whirl and drain rapidly through the grates.
Afterwards, the students joyfully said, "Wow, we really drained a lot of water." They then gathered the remaining trash with brooms and slippers, thoroughly cleaned the road, and left.
They said, "Let's kick it out with our feet, with our feet," and, regardless of wearing slippers, they removed various trash, fallen leaves, and foreign substances buried in the drain.

One of the students who cleaned the trash, Yeonwoo Kim, said, "There were dead earthworms, beer cans, boxes, plastic, and especially a lot of branches and leaves." Another student, Gyueun Lee, explained her reason for stepping up: "The water was deeper than I expected, so I thought if we didn’t clean this, it would completely flood."
Netizens who heard the story praised the students, commenting, "It must have been dangerous and hard, but they did a great job," "Their parents must be really proud," and "Truly admirable."
Meanwhile, the Changwon Office of Education is reportedly considering awarding commendations to the four students.
