Minju on Yoon's mother-in-law's court detention: "Justice served... a ruling that shows the law is alive"
The Democratic Party of Korea stated on the 21st that the legal imprisonment of President Yoon Seok-yeol's mother-in-law, Choi Eun-soon, in the appellate court on charges including forgery of bank account balance certificates is "a just outcome" and that "strict punishment was inevitable."

Park Sung-jun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said at a National Assembly briefing, "This ruling by the court shows that the law is alive," and added, "We hope this verdict will serve as an opportunity to restore judicial justice that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration has undermined."
Spokesperson Park pointed out, "Strict punishment was inevitable considering the enormous illegal gains Choi initially obtained," and added, "Nevertheless, a lot of time passed before Choi stood trial and was detained."
He continued, "The president, who advocates the rule of law, has led efforts to overlook and shield his in-laws' illegal acts, but such shameless behavior can no longer be tolerated," emphasizing this point.
He further stated, "Choi's legal imprisonment is only the beginning. There are many public suspicion cases surrounding the president's in-laws, including the stock manipulation case involving First Lady Kim Geon-hee," and urged, "We call for a strict investigation by the prosecution."
He urged the prosecution to conduct a thorough investigation, saying, "Through a strict investigation, it must be thoroughly revealed whether there were illegal acts and crimes, and those responsible must face legal judgment."

The Uijeongbu District Court's 3rd Criminal Division (Chief Judge Lee Sung-kyun) dismissed Choi's appeal at the sentencing hearing that day, stating, "There is no reason to accept the defendant's appeal considering all circumstances." The court explained the reason for legal imprisonment, saying, "The right to defense was fully guaranteed up to the appellate court, and the nature of the crime is very serious." Choi, who collapsed while crying out in protest of her innocence, was carried out by court officials.
