Ruling and Opposition Parties Mourn Elementary School Teacher's Extreme Choice... Kim Eo-jun Reported
21st People Power Party Floor Strategy Meeting
"Rep. Han Gi-ho and People Power Party Suffer Political Damage"
"Will Seek Institutional Measures to Prevent Violation of Educational Authority"
On the 21st, both ruling and opposition parties expressed their condolences in unison over the extreme choice made by a teacher at Seo-i Elementary School in Seocho-gu, Seoul. However, the People Power Party filed a police complaint against Kim Eo-jun, who raised allegations involving a three-term lawmaker from their party.
Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the 21st, “There have been rumors that the parent who filed malicious complaints against the teacher who made the extreme choice is a three-term member of the National Assembly,” adding, “An unverified online rumor was concretized by a famous YouTuber, claiming that a three-term lawmaker from the People Power Party was involved, which caused the controversy to spread uncontrollably.”

Floor leader Yoon said, “Our party member Han Ki-ho, who was identified as the person involved, eventually issued a statement clarifying that none of his grandchildren attend this elementary school,” and added, “Although this rumor was proven false, Han Ki-ho’s reputation has already suffered significant damage, and our People Power Party has also taken a political hit.”
He continued, “Most of the rumors circulating on the internet surrounding the teacher’s extreme choice have been revealed to be false, and the person who posted the original message on an online mom caf?, which was the source of these rumors, deleted it, stating it was untrue,” and said, “Our party has decided to file a complaint against Kim Eo-jun for spreading false information.”
Yoon expressed, “I deeply mourn the deceased’s tragic choice and empathize greatly with the profound anger of teachers nationwide who see this incident as a tragic result of the loss of teacher authority,” and added, “The spread of fake news actually hinders the efforts of the majority of teachers who are struggling with infringements on their authority and striving to improve the situation. Our party plans to devise institutional measures to prevent unjust infringements on teacher authority.”
Lee Cheol-gyu, secretary-general, said, “Left-wing media and rumor mongers are once again ramping up attempts to fabricate and politicize this tragic death,” adding, “They are creating and spreading rumors again from their well-known factories of lies and rumor mills.”
Secretary-General Lee criticized, “Even though it has been objectively proven false, they show no shame or reflection, acting as if nothing happened. They have always behaved this way,” and called it “a shameless act of saying ‘never mind’ even when lies are exposed.”
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed condolences during a public meeting on the same day and pledged to do his best to establish measures to protect teacher authority. At the party’s supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly, Lee said, “A heartbreaking incident occurred where an active teacher at an elementary school in Seoul took their own life,” and added, “I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved family who must be suffering more than anyone else.”
On the same day, Lee urged for the utmost efforts to establish measures to protect teacher authority. He emphasized, “I hope the education authorities will promptly and thoroughly investigate the facts of this incident,” and added, “I will do my best to establish a protection network for teacher authority in classrooms where it is not guaranteed.”
