Shintanjin Rest Area Hydrochloric Acid Leak 'Safety Measures Completed'... No Casualties
An acid leak accident occurred at Sintanjin Rest Area. Less than 100 liters of hydrochloric acid leaked at the scene, but no casualties have been confirmed so far.
According to the fire authorities on the 20th, at 5:39 PM that day, an acid leak accident occurred at Sintanjin Rest Area on the northbound Gyeongbu Expressway in Sangseo-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon.
After receiving the driver's report, the fire authorities dispatched the 119 Special Rescue Team and equipment to the scene and completed safety measures around 6:18 PM that day.
The accident is presumed to have occurred due to a hole in the tanker. The fire authorities are conducting a tanker replacement operation while investigating the detailed cause of the acid leak.

Earlier, Daedeok-gu notified residents of the acid leak accident via a safety alert message immediately after receiving the report. They also urged, "Residents of Sangseo-dong are advised to close windows, stop using air conditioners, and stay indoors until further notice."
