Lee Jae-myung Repeatedly Urges "Supplementary Budget" Needed for Flood Recovery and Livelihood Economy Restoration
"Extraordinary Response Suitable for National Disaster Situation"
Park Kwang-on "Formation of Ruling-Opposition TF, Preparation of Damage Support Needed"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, reiterated on the 19th that "an urgent supplementary budget is absolutely necessary for flood recovery and the restoration of the livelihood economy."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Office in Andong, Gyeongbuk, Lee said, "Now is the time to mobilize all national capabilities for the swift recovery from the (heavy rain) damage and to prevent further damage," adding, "I earnestly appeal to the government and ruling party for extraordinary measures appropriate to this national disaster situation."
He particularly emphasized the need for a supplementary budget to address the overlapping crises of the livelihood economy and disaster emergencies.
Lee stated, "The livelihood economy is currently very difficult. With the disaster crisis overlapping, the suffering experienced by the people is immense," and added, "Disaster prevention facilities of the existing methods and levels cannot cope with the disasters." He further said, "Through large-scale investment in disaster prevention facilities and damage support, we can achieve triple benefits of revitalizing the economy, supporting livelihoods, and responding to disasters. This requires substantial national support and attention," and once again urged, "I hope the government and ruling party will cooperate in preparing the supplementary budget."
On the same day, Floor Leader Park Kwang-on said, "We need to form a ruling-opposition-government TF to prepare for (heavy rain) damage recovery, damage support, and preventive measures."
Park said, "The Democratic Party urged the formation of a ruling-opposition-government TF and the supplementary budget for flood recovery yesterday," adding, "Designation as a disaster-affected area does not solve all problems."

He stated, "Damage support at the level of supporting 12 types of public utility fees does not practically help the daily recovery of the affected citizens at all," and added, "Even if designated as a special disaster area, to overcome the limitation of the support scale being too small, it is necessary to realize private damage recovery standards." He also mentioned, "Amendments to the Disaster Management Basic Act and the Agricultural Disaster Act are absolutely necessary," and said, "Related bills, including laws to prevent urban flooding and river overflow, are pending in the National Assembly, and I once again urge the ruling party to ensure that the essential bills are definitely passed in the August National Assembly."
