Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants to Host the 4th ESG Certification Forum on the 4th of Next Month
The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) announced on the 18th that it will hold the 4th ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Certification Forum.
As an institution of audit and certification experts, KICPA has been hosting the ESG Certification Forum since 2022 to contribute to enhancing the transparency and reliability of ESG information, sharing the accounting industry's expertise with external stakeholders, and discussing related issues.
The forum, scheduled for the 4th of next month, will be held under the theme "Measures to Secure the Competence of ESG Certifiers ? Current Status and Implications of Global ESG Certification Systems." ▲Topic Presentation 1: In the session on the current status of global ESG certification systems, Professor Heeyeon Sunwoo from Sejong University will explain the ESG certification systems of major overseas countries and the qualification regulatory frameworks for certifiers and certification bodies. ▲Topic Presentation 2: In the session on the introduction of domestic ESG certification qualification systems, Professor Gyu-an Jeon from Soongsil University will present measures to secure the competence of ESG certifiers in Korea.
The comprehensive discussion will be chaired by Jeongwoo Seo, former member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), with panelists including ▲Kwangil Kim, Director of Fair Market Division at the Financial Services Commission ▲Beomjun Kim, Professor at Catholic University ▲Miyup Kwon, Partner at Samil Accounting Corporation ▲Kyungjin Kang, Executive Director at the Korea Listed Companies Association ▲Eunhae Ko, Head of Sustainvest ▲Woonghee Lee, Director at the Korea Accounting Standards Board ▲Seongsik Kwon, Director at the Korean Standards Association. The forum will be available for viewing on KICPA’s YouTube channel.
Kim Youngsik, Chairman of KICPA, stated, "I understand that the Financial Services Commission’s ESG disclosure roadmap, to be announced within the third quarter of this year, will also include content on third-party certification systems." He emphasized, "High-quality certification is necessary to ensure the reliability of ESG information, and the competence of certifiers is a prerequisite for high-quality certification." He added, "We expect this forum to serve as a platform for communication to establish an effective ESG certification system."

Meanwhile, KICPA is conducting various projects including operating the ESG Certification Forum, introducing international certification standards, running the ESG Academy, and publishing booklets.
