Hapcheon-gun Signs Business Agreement for Eco-Friendly Pumped Storage Power Plant
Establishment of a Cooperative System to Attract Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant
Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed a "Win-Win Cooperation Agreement for the Attraction and Construction of a Pumped Storage Power Plant" on the 17th at the KHNP headquarters, in accordance with the government's 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand.
At the signing ceremony, Hwang Ju-ho, President of KHNP, Kim Yoon-cheol, Mayor of Hapcheon-gun, and Oh Do-chang, Mayor of Yeongyang-gun, were present.
They promised to create an important leap forward by establishing a cooperative system for attracting the Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant and forming a strategic partnership necessary for the construction and operation of the Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant.

Additionally, through mutual cooperation with Hapcheon-gun, KHNP pledged to strive to supply electricity stably and enrich the lives of the people.
Mayor Kim said, “This business agreement holds great significance for Hapcheon-gun’s participation in the construction of the pumped storage power plant under the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand and the government’s energy policy. I express my gratitude to all the officials and residents who have supported us, and we will mobilize all administrative power and establish a support system at the county level to fully commit to attracting the pumped storage power plant.”
Meanwhile, based on the application for the new pumped storage power plant construction site submitted directly by Mayor Kim to the KHNP headquarters on the 30th of last month, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to select the operator and power plant location through priority project operator review and decision between August and September.
Pumped storage power generation is an eco-friendly method using water, known not only for electricity production but also as a regional tourist attraction. Among various power generation methods, it is recognized as the cleanest and most beautiful way to generate electricity.
Hapcheon-gun prioritized securing resident acceptance for attracting the pumped storage power plant and has thoroughly explained the necessity of the project and support details to local residents around the planned construction site through several residents’ briefings and tours since August last year.
Accordingly, local residents decided to attract the project through a voluntary resident vote in December last year and actively participated in the attraction by signing petitions for the project.
Furthermore, as the desire to attract the pumped storage power plant expanded throughout the county, the Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant Attraction Promotion Group was launched on the 12th of last month, and a county-wide rally for the attraction was held on the 22nd, with all residents uniting their will and spreading the desire for attraction.
