Changwon Special City and Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hold 2nd Meeting of Economic Council
Gathering Support for Building a Skilled Workforce Database to Alleviate Labor Shortages in Local Companies
On the 17th, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Changwon Special City held the 2nd meeting of the Changwon Economic Council in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended by 21 members of the council including Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, and Gu Jacheon, Chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
At the meeting, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposed ▲ the enactment of an ordinance for fostering and supporting exemplary long-established companies ▲ developing the central commercial area as the core urban growth area ▲ joint utilization of Changwon City's investment attraction system.
Regarding the ‘Enactment of an Ordinance for Fostering and Supporting Exemplary Long-Established Companies,’ the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry had submitted a proposal in March, and the related ordinance was enacted by the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council in July this year. Accordingly, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposed establishing a differentiated support system that reflects the characteristics of industries and business types in Changwon, the only special city outside the metropolitan area, and allows executives and employees of exemplary long-established companies to take pride.
They also proposed developing the central commercial area, created between Changwon City Hall and Gyeongnam Provincial Office, as the core urban growth area. Although this area is the city’s central district, it is hindered by various regulations, so the proposal aims to ease these restrictions to efficiently attract companies and institutions necessary for urban functions, such as corporate support organizations, R&D centers, and venture companies.
Next, they suggested jointly utilizing the ‘Investment Attraction System’ that Changwon City established and has been using since May for investment attraction purposes, together with the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to enhance the efficiency of attracting investments within the region.
Furthermore, beyond investment attraction matters, they agreed on building a shared database of skilled workers to facilitate the redeployment of skilled personnel and the efficient local utilization of retired workers, establishing a process to connect job seekers with companies recruiting talent.
In addition, the proposals and agenda items raised at the 2nd Changwon Economic Council meeting were reviewed by the relevant departments and bureaus of Changwon City to be reflected in city administration.
Chairman Gu said, “Progress requires a new driving force called innovation, not just maintaining the status quo. Policies across the city, not just for companies, must be viewed from the perspective of innovation and change, and I hope that today’s discussions will be the starting point for such innovation and change.”
Mayor Hong said, “I appreciate the local companies striving to overcome changes in supply chains and diplomatic environments. Urban growth requires balanced investment in both hardware and software. Changwon City is laying the groundwork for the growth of key local industries such as hydrogen, nuclear power, and defense, while focusing its capabilities on nurturing highly skilled personnel who will further increase the added value of local industries.”
