Heavy Rain Casualties Continue to Rise: "26 Dead, 10 Missing"
Casualties are increasing due to continuous heavy rain across the country.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) on the 15th, the number of deaths and missing persons due to heavy rain from the 9th until 11 p.m. on the same day was counted at 36.
A large number of vehicles were submerged in an underpass in Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, prompting search operations by fire authorities and police.

The number of deaths is 26, including 17 in Gyeongbuk, 4 in Chungnam, 4 in Chungbuk, and 1 in Sejong. The missing persons are 10, including 9 in Gyeongbuk and 1 in Busan. In Gyeongbuk, where landslide damage was severe, a total of 26 casualties including deaths and missing persons occurred.
In particular, those related to the vehicle flooding accident in the underground passage of Osong-eup, Cheongju-si, Chungbuk, which occurred in the morning of the same day, are not included. In this accident, 15 vehicles were stranded, 1 person died, and 11 missing reports were received. Since the exact number of stranded people has not yet been accurately identified, there is a high possibility that the damage will increase.
As damage from landslides and house flooding continues, the number of evacuees is also increasing. As of 11 p.m., the number of pre-evacuated people is 5,566 from 3,323 households in 73 cities, counties, and districts across 13 provinces. The damage to public facilities due to heavy rain totals 74 cases, including 9 cases of road slope collapse, 21 cases of road damage or collapse, 3 cases of retaining wall damage, 12 cases of soil runoff, 7 cases of river embankment collapse, and 13 cases of flooding.
Additionally, 30 houses were flooded and 6 houses were damaged. Damage to fishing vessels also occurred with 6 boats affected. Due to power outages, 1,500 households in Yecheon and Mungyeong in Gyeongbuk, and Jeungpyeong and Goesan in Chungbuk are still experiencing inconvenience. Crop damage is also severe, with a total of 9,309.5 hectares submerged in water. Roads were closed at 196 locations, and 20 flights and 28 vessels on 20 ferry routes were suspended.
