Goheung County Governor Visits National Assembly to Request National Funding

Visit by National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo and Others to Propose Key Projects

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it is carrying out comprehensive activities to establish the foundation for a population of 100,000 in Gohung 10 years from now, the slogan of the 8th elected local government.

On the 13th, Governor Gong Young-min visited the National Assembly with the Planning Director and the Head of the Environment and Forestry Division, meeting with National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo and Budget and Accounts Committee Chairman Seo Sam-seok to propose nine key projects.

The projects include ▲Creation of a space launch vehicle industry cluster (380 billion KRW) ▲Space Launch Vehicle Technology Commercialization Center (44.5 billion KRW) ▲Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex (380 billion KRW) ▲Construction of the Gwangju?Gohung (Naro Space Center) Expressway (budget undecided) ▲Railroad construction from Beolgyo Station on the Gyeongjeon Line to Gohung Station and Nokdong Station (budget undecided) ▲Geogeum Jeokdaebong Ecological Trail (10 billion KRW) ▲National Palyongsan Area Forest Healing Center (budget undecided) ▲Improvement of Natural Disaster Risk Zones in Songgok, Gohung (17.4 billion KRW) ▲Urban flood response project for the priority management area of sewage system maintenance in Doyang District, Gohung (54.3 billion KRW).

In particular, he explained the necessity and feasibility of the National Palyongsan Area Forest Healing Center project, emphasizing that the project site is a large-scale national forest already owned by the Korea Forest Service, which has the obligation to manage it systematically, and that one of the solutions should be realized through the establishment of the Forest Healing Center.

At the same time, he strongly explained that the promotion of the Forest Healing Center project aligns not only with the development of Gohung-gun, a depopulated area, but also with the Korea Forest Service’s ‘3rd Comprehensive Plan for Forest Education.’

Governor Gong Young-min said, “One of the recent trends in returning to farming and rural areas is returning to the mountains (Guisan),” and added, “We will do our best to proactively establish a systematic forest education system for mountain returnees interested in Gohung-gun through attracting the National Gohung Palyongsan Area Forest Healing Center.”
