Launch of Development for Ultra-Large AI-Based Patent Examination System
LG AI Research Institute has partnered with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to develop a 'Patent Expert AI.'
On the 14th, LG AI Research Institute and KIPO announced that they signed a 'Business Agreement for Building a Patent-Dedicated Super Large AI Model' at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by 15 officials from KIPO and LG AI Research Institute, including Lee In-sil, Commissioner of KIPO; Hyun Sung-hoon, Director of the Patent Information Service; Bae Kyung-hoon, Director of LG AI Research Institute; and Lee Hwa-young, Head of AI Business Development Unit at LG AI Research Institute.
Through this agreement, LG AI Research Institute and KIPO plan to develop a 'Patent Expert AI' that can be utilized for administrative services such as searching, classifying, and summarizing patent documents. To this end, KIPO will provide patent information it holds, including AI training data, and share know-how gained from developing existing patent-dedicated AI services. LG AI Research Institute will build and transfer the patent-dedicated super large AI model and offer related training opportunities to actively utilize it.
Earlier, since June, LG AI Research Institute and the Patent Information Service have begun preliminary work to collect and process patent documents for training the super large AI language model 'EXAONE Universe' to build the 'Patent Expert AI.'

Bae Kyung-hoon, Director of LG AI Research Institute, said, "I believe that combining KIPO's patent data and know-how with LG's AI technology can create greater synergy," adding, "We will work closely with KIPO to create a global advanced use case for super large AI."
