Government and Local Governments Join Forces for Digital Road Management
Pilot Project for Digitalization of Road Registers in Gwangju and Gyeonggi Regions 추진
On the 14th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will sign a business agreement with Gwangju Metropolitan City, Gyeonggi Province, Yecheon County, and others to promote the pilot project of the 'National Road Network Digital Twin.'
The National Road Network Digital Twin is a project to build a road ledger in a standardized digital format and establish an integrated platform for road maintenance and utilization.
The pilot project promoted through this business agreement signifies the beginning of digital transformation for roads under the jurisdiction of local governments, such as provincial roads, and aims to support efficient road administrative services for local governments based on various functions on the platform, including statistical analysis of road facilities.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will also sign a business agreement to open part of the General National Road Maintenance System (entrusted to the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology) to enable Gyeonggi Province and Paju City to systematically manage roads under their jurisdiction and provide technical advice based on long-accumulated know-how.
Gyeonggi Province will be provided with an AI-based automatic pavement damage detection system that analyzes videos filmed from patrol vehicles to automatically detect road pavement damage, enabling prompt repairs.
