"New World"... Current and Former Twitter Employees Join Threads in Large Numbers
Some Have Also Joined for Espionage Purposes
Meta's newly launched social networking service (SNS), Threads, has reportedly seen a large number of both former and current Twitter employees join.
On the 12th (local time), according to the U.S. news website The Daily Beast, a comparison was made between 133 Twitter employees identified through the job platform LinkedIn and Threads accounts and their owners, revealing that at least 31 Twitter employees have joined Threads.
The exact reasons why they created Threads accounts are not known. However, the media reported that some Twitter employees have a positive view of Threads.
One employee said through their Threads account, "I will probably get fired because of this," but also added, "I currently work at Twitter, but I have never actually used it." They went on to praise Threads, saying, "Threads is much better" and "It's a new world." Another Twitter employee mentioned the account registration process on Threads, saying, "The sign-up process was really good."
Currently, the number of Twitter employees is around 2,000, and the media estimated that the number of Threads users from Twitter could be in the hundreds. However, some employees are reportedly joining for the purpose of 'spying' on a competitor. One Twitter employee wrote, "I came to learn," while another posted a message saying, "Test 1."
Former Twitter employees who were laid off also appear to have joined Threads. Esther Crawford, once known as a key aide to Musk and dismissed in February, also opened an account on Threads.

Meanwhile, Threads is a text-based SNS launched by Meta on the 5th. Users can post short texts or photos within 500 characters and communicate with other subscribers. Up to five photos can be attached, and videos cannot exceed five minutes. Functionally, it is very similar to Twitter, leading Threads to be called a 'rival to Twitter.' Threads surpassed 100 million users worldwide just five days after its launch on the 10th.
