Busan City will hold the ‘2023 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Race’ together with Gyeongnam Province and Jeonnam Province from the 13th to the 16th.
The ‘Namhaean Cup International Yacht Race’ is the longest domestic cruiser yacht race connecting Busan, Gyeongnam (Tongyeong), and Jeonnam (Yeosu). The three cities and provinces co-host the event to create a new growth marine leisure tourism belt, aiming to promote mutual development in the Namhaean region and expand the base of marine leisure activities.
Now in its 4th year, this year’s competition will feature about 300 athletes from 5 countries competing in thrilling races against the backdrop of the beautiful natural scenery of the Namhaean coast.
The opening ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on the 13th at the Nurimaru APEC House in Busan. Athletes and key guests will attend to announce the opening declaration and perform the opening performance, signaling the successful start of the event.
The competition will begin the day after the opening ceremony, on the 14th, with yacht races from Suyeong Bay in Busan through Tongyeong to Yeosu, along with citizen experience side events in each city and province. The entire schedule will conclude with the awards ceremony and closing ceremony held on the 16th at the Woongcheon Circular Marina in Yeosu.
The race is divided into two sections: ▲Section 1 on the 14th (Busan Suyeong Bay to Tongyeong Donam Port) and ▲Section 2 on the 16th (Tongyeong Donam Port to Yeosu New Port). Since the race sections cover long distances, a side event for athletes to rest and enjoy together will be held in Tongyeong on the 15th.
In Busan, side events will be held on the 13th and 14th from 12 noon to 7 p.m. on the deck of The Bay 101 yacht boarding dock.
At the marine waste recycling event, open to the general public and tourists, participants can experience making wireless earphone pouches and key rings using old sails.
