Hanwha Solutions to Build 20MW-Class Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant with SK D&D
Construction Starts in Q1 2025... 110,000t Carbon Reduction
Targeting Participation in Domestic Hydrogen Power Generation Bidding Market
Hanwha Solutions is entering the hydrogen fuel cell power generation market in partnership with comprehensive real estate and renewable energy company SK D&D. They will also jointly promote solar power generation projects.
Hanwha Solutions announced on the 12th that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK D&D at the Hanwha Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, to advance hydrogen fuel cell and solar power generation projects.
The two companies plan to build a 20MW-class hydrogen fuel cell power plant aiming to participate in the hydrogen power generation bidding market. Hanwha Solutions will secure sites for hydrogen fuel cell power generation in industrial complexes in the metropolitan area and handle permit applications. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
SK D&D will be responsible for fuel cell supply and power plant operation and management (O&M). Once completed, the power plant is expected to produce enough electricity to supply approximately 47,000 households annually.
Hanwha Solutions and SK D&D signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) on the 11th at the Hanwha Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, to promote hydrogen fuel cell and solar power generation projects. Hydrogen fuel cell power generation produces electricity by extracting hydrogen from liquefied natural gas (LNG) and causing a chemical reaction with oxygen. Compared to thermal power generation, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 110,000 tons annually.
Hanwha Solutions plans to expand its fuel cell power generation business by utilizing industrial complexes under development in the metropolitan area and sites suitable for distributed power generation projects. They will also jointly develop and invest in renewable energy-related projects such as solar power generation with SK D&D.
